Sugar Cane is the main source of producing raw sugar in Thailand, depending on the season Thailand may be able to produce more than 70 million tons of sugar cane per year.
This presentation is only meant to show where gland packings are used and do not represent the whole sugar mill process. Each factory process may also vary.
All packings recommended have been tested by Mahamek at their respective process for at least 5 years.
1. Clarification Tank
After the sugarcane has been rolled and pressed for raw juice, the raw juice will be placed on a large tank to rest and any sediments will slowly drop to the bottom of the tank. The bagasses are separated and move by conveyor belt to be burned as fuel at the Boiler.
RAW JUICE - 4029
2. Limestone Tank
Raw juice is then transferred to the limestone tank to purify any impurities. The impurities will get attach to the limestone and also drop to the bottom of the tank.
LIMESTONE - 4029

3.Evaporator Tank
Next, the clarified juice is now clean and clear and can transfer to a series of evaporator tanks to reduce its water content down to approximately 50%.
EVAPORATOR - 4029, 5019
PRE CRYSTALLIZATION FILTER - 5050
4. Crystallization Process
Once out of the evaporators, all the syrup will be store and rest in a tank to be ready for crystallization.
This syrup will go into a series of centrifugal pumps and magma pumps, starting from centrifugal A to magma A then centrifugal B to magma B then centrifugal C and lastly magma C.
Some massecuite from magma C is also inserted back into A to act as a catalyst for sugar crystals to form.
MIXER - 5019
CENTRIFUGAL PUMP - 4259
MAGMA PUMP- 4259
The picture below is of a magma pump taken by Mahamek
The crystallization process is the most critical stage at any sugar mills as these Magma pumps must work under very high massecuite, viscosity, high pressure, and very long traveling distance or head (m). The viscosity of the massecuite is now close to that of a solid and this put a tremendous load on the packing. Also, very high abrasiveness will cause packing and shaft to score and wear. If packing doesn't hold then the pump loses its pressure and the whole process fails.
More of our specialize packings are also require in white sugar process, such as:
Carbonation process
Syrup centrifugal pumps
